Introduction

Standard Policy Categories

Check and Fix contains a standard library of policies that do the 'checking' of HTML documents to determine if they fail to satisfy the criteria of a 'valid' HTML document. This library is structured by having high level 'Policy Categories', each containing 1 or more 'Policies'. Each high level category is used to group the default policies, with the aim being that any new additional policies created fit under the umbrella of a policy category.

The Check and Fix standard policy library is available to all Vamosa customers. This library encompasses the policies to discover and possibly fix common content problems, ones that Vamosa have become familiar with and commonly arise in a content migration. A customer can choose which policies to apply and which ones to ignore, not all policies are required and no policy is dependent on the reulsts of another policy to function corectly.

Each of these policy categories contain a number of policies, which are the 'rules' that will be applied to the content to check for invalid HTML documents. When a rule fails the 'check' a policy exception is created, sent to Check and Fix and recorded as a policy violation which will be reviewed and actioned by the end user – the customer. Not all policies produce a hard and fast exception, some policies will generate a 'reporting' policy exception which should be considered when viewing exception reporting in Check and Fix.

For example, Accessibility as a policy category on its own is useless, it requires a policy that will determine the rule that a piece of content must adhere too. This rule may be to check that all HTML IMG (image) tags have an 'alt' attribute that must contain a value. When checking each image tag, any that are found to have an 'alt' attribute that is empty will result in a policy exception being created. This new policy exception will be highlighted to the customer in Check and Fix, ensuring the correct action can be taken to resolve the empty 'alt' attribute.

The following sections aim to provide more detailed information on the standard policies that are available to Vamosa customers, with a description of what to expect when a policy violation exists within the Check and Fix portal and what this means to a customer with regards to their content.
